Activity for Alzheimer’s

PUZZLES FOR ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

Puzzles for Alzheimer's and other types of dementia come in many forms, including jigsaw and crossword puzzles, paper puzzles, and more.

The best puzzles for seniors with dementia including Alzheimer’s disease present the user with a problem that is difficult enough to be a fun challenge, but not so hard that it becomes frustrating. The ideal puzzle choice will depend on the ability and the interests of the person who will be solving it. Best Alzheimer’s Products has puzzles for people in early stage and middle stage Alzheimer’s disease. We also have more challenging puzzles that are suitable for people with Mild Cognitive Impairment and some for seniors without cognitive issues but who are concerned about keeping their minds sharp.

Puzzles are therapeutic because they stimulate the brain. We clinical evidence that puzzles ease behavioral symptoms associated with dementia, and can even improve memory and cognition. Improvement is temporary, but can last days or even weeks, and that is significant.

In addition to cognitive stimulation, jigsaw puzzles also provide a social setting; it is more fun to work a puzzle with others. Socialization is very important for people with dementia who are often isolated much of the day. Most of our jigsaw puzzles have fewer than 50 large pieces, and pictures that are in no way childish. A wildlife painting is more age-appropriate for mature adults than is a picture of Sponge Bob, for example.

Not all puzzles for Alzheimer’s are jigsaw puzzles. Any activity that poses a problem to be solved can properly be called a puzzle, and any activity that requires the brain to be exercised is an appropriate puzzle for someone with Alzheimer’s disease. Other types of puzzles include crossword and other paper puzzles, brain-teasers, mazes, and more. Our puzzle books are full of these other puzzle types, and contain other brain activities as well.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

  • Thanks, Appreciate that “extra effort”. Don’t seem to run into that much anymore… and that is a shame. I’m really looking forward to receiving the “toys” for my wife. I pray they will work as good as one of her caregivers told me they would. Ken
