Respite for Caregivers and Their Loved Ones

The Video Respite series provides you with a tool to improve the quality of life for the person or the people in your care while providing you with a way to improve your own quality of life by providing a respite from the challenges of caring.

The Making Of Video Respite from Video Respite on Vimeo.

Respite for Caregivers and Their Loved Ones

Each of the thirteen videos also provides the caregiver with a way to improve his or her own quality of life by providing a respite from the challenges of caring. All are designed to hold the attention of people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia through music, light movement, and reminiscence.[pullquote]This kept Mother entertained like nothing else has for years. I could use it every day or back-to-back because it’s like a new tape each time. If she is depressed or irritable, it will get her out of it. She won’t watch TV, but she is glued to the video.[/pullquote]

Video Respite® was developed from valuable research, designed to capture and maintain the attention of those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia through music, light movement, and the recollection of fond memories. The caregiver, in turn, is able to enjoy short periods of “respite” or “time away” from the challenges of caring.

The people on the videos become very real friends to the people who are watching. As they have a conversation, or sing together, or remember times in the past, you are able to have some time away from the caregiver role, time to prepare a meal, to write a letter, to read a book.

These DVDs are wonderful additions to an overall care strategy. Each provides physical exercise in the form of light movement, socialization, reminiscence, and sensory and cognitive stimulation. All are ideal aids for caring for a person with dementia in the home, and they also work well in a group situation, in nursing homes and Alzheimer’s day care.

The broad variety of subjects and presenters ensures that there is a video for everyone. Tony talks to men and Diane chats with women. George shares Christmas memories, and Joyce remembers favorite things. There is one that celebrates African American culture and another that rejoices in Jewish holidays and traditions. One, A Visit With Maria, is in Spanish.
